For students looking to become more involved in Communications while receiving recognition for their academic achievements, University of Pittsburgh's chapter of Lambda Pi Eta offers an opportunity to do both.
Lambda Pi Eta (LPH) is the National Communication Association's official honor society. LPH is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS) with over 500 chapters worldwide. The Omicron Psi Chapter at Pitt has been in existence since 2005 and has over 200 members.
Membership is open only to COMMRC majors who have at least 60 credit hours completed, a 3.0 cumulative GPA or above, a 3.25 GPA or above in the COMMRC major, and at least 12 credits in Communication completed. Join Lambda Pi Eta to get involved with Pitt, and experience what it's like to be a part of an honor society. Beyond recognizing academic achievement, Lambda Pi Eta gives Communications students the opportunity to become more involved with their field of interest and connect their coursework with professional and academic experiences.
Be involved in an honor society that has benefits including: a certificate of membership suitable for framing and a commemorative pin, the opportunity to purchase honor cords to wear at Commencement, the opportunity to present research papers during the LPH sessions at the annual NCA conference and be eligible for paper awards, the opportunity to be involved in LPH at the national level via their national student board and officers, and a members-only LPH LinkedIn group.
Dr. Meredith Guthrie notes that "Membership in Lambda Pi Eta demonstrates that students have done excellent work as a Communications major and is one way to stand out from the crowd. It's completely ok to put membership on your resume! The membership is for life."
There is a one-time initiation fee of $35.00, and if you would like to purchase honor cords for graduation, that is an additional $13.00.
Join this Fall 2026! Registration for Lambda Pi Eta for Fall 2026 is open and the deadline to register is November 1st at 5:00pm. If you qualify for this membership and would like to join the Omicron Psi chapter of Lambda Pi Eta or have any questions, you can contact Dr. Meredith Guthrie at 412-624-6567 or guthrie@pitt.edu.
