Altynay Karimova

Altynay Karimova is a PhD student in Communication at the University of Pittsburgh, originally from Almaty, Kazakhstan. She holds a BS in Geography from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and an MS in International Journalism from KIMEP University. Her research interests include political communication, computational propaganda, and the influence of disinformation on society.

Prior to joining the University of Pittsburgh, she worked as a research assistant on an international project analyzing media narratives in non-democratic states, served as communications manager for USAID’s Future Growth Initiative, and authored analytical articles for the Central Asian Bureau for Analytical Reporting. 

Outside of her academic work, she enjoys learning about foreign cultures and taking nature walks. She is fluent in Kazakh, Russian, and English.
