Rishi Chebrolu was awarded one of three Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences Summer Research Fellowships
Rishi Chebrolu was a successful awardee for the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences Summer Research Fellowship. During the summer Rishi's project was a rhetorical analysis of the social media platform Gab. Gab advertises itself as a free-speech focused alternative to mainstream social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook, and is a hub for white nationalism because of its purposely-lax content moderation. Rishi examined the way that Gab portrays itself as a platform and in relationship to the context of world events to understand what is appealing about the platform. Through analysis of the advertising and policy of the platform, Rishi hopes to further the understanding of how the politics of digital platforms intersects with unconscious structures of racial antagonism.
