"We Can Do It"

Dr. Lester Olson & Dr. James J. Kimble

On February 15, 2013 Wikipedia will feature, on it's main page, Olson and Kimble's article on the "We Can Do It" poster.  The poster being featured was the subject of Olson and Kimble's co-authored article, "Visual Rhetoric Representing Rosie the Riveter: Myth and Misconception in J. Howard Miller's "We Can Do It" Poster,"which was published in Rhetoric & Public Affairs in 2006.  An author for Wikipedia was moved by the coauthors' RPA article to write an entry and prominently credited the coauthors for calling attention to revisionist uses of the original poster. The date for the Wikipedia feature on the home page was chosen for its connection to the 70th Anniversary of the poster's first appearance in the Westinghouse factories.  Placement on Wikipedia's main home page as a "Featured Article" status confers Wikipedia's recognition of its top level of quality.
