John Rief Named as Jonas Salk Fellow
Doctoral student John Rief has been selected as a 2009-2010 Jonas Salk Medical Ethics Fellowship recipient. This fellowship program, co-sponsored by the Jewish Healthcare Foundation and the University of Pittsburgh Center for Bioethics and Health Law, is designed to improve health and quality of life of the residents of the Pittsburgh region, by introducing talented and highly motivated graduate students in the health sciences to respected professionals in the medical field. The Fellowship will connect students to community centers of excellence, exposing participants to the broader aspects of healthcare and supplementing and enhancing current internships, practicum, and experiential learning requirements.
Salk fellows will convene for six meetings held between October 20th, 2009 and April 20th, 2010. Dialogue topics will include: patient safety and perfecting patient care, global health and pandemics, end of life decision-making, and international health care comparisons.
