John Lyne Speaks at the Warhol
Dr. John Lyne gave an invited lecture at the Warhol Museum on March 1 titled, "Better Than Well: Physical and Mental Health and the Moving Target of Perfection." It was one of several talks given in conjunction with the Museum's exhibition on "Deadly Medicine: Creating the Master Race," about science, art, and eugenics.
Speakers besides Professor Lyne included Dr. Andrew Lee, head of plastic surgery at UPMC; Lisa Parker, head of Pitt's master of arts program in bioethics and health law; and Terry Smith, Mellon Distinguished Professor of Art and Art History. They were asked to explore aspects of the quest for human perfection and the dangers it presents.
Professor Lyne will speak on the topic of "rhetoric and common sense" in the distinguished lecturer series at the University of Iowa on April 10. He also will teach a graduate course in rhetorical theory at Shanghai Technical University in May.
