Christopher A. House Selected as Harvard Seminar Participant

This summer, Pitt alumni and current Assistant Professor of Communication at Ithaca College, Christopher A. House, will travel to Cambridge, Massachusetts, to participate in Harvard Divinity School’s Seminar on Debates About Religion and Sexuality.  The seminar which will take place June 10-19, 2014, will facilitate dialogue among scholars, writers, artists, activists, and religious leaders who are working on major projects, using diverse methodologies, related to religions and sexual cultures.  Not only was his application selected out of a highly competitive national pool of applicants, Professor House is being awarded funds from the Seminar that have been financed by the Ford Foundation, for travel, hotel accommodations, and meals.  In the seminar, he will continue to prepare his 2012 dissertation “Rhetorics of the Black Church: Sex, Religion, and HIV/AIDS Across the African Diaspora” for publication, in workshops and in discussion groups lead by some of the foremost scholars of religion and sexuality at Harvard University and other institutions, including seminar leaders Mark D. Jordan of Washington University, St. Louis, and Myra Rivera Rivera of Harvard.
